ABOUT KVPY

The "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" (KVPY) is a program started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.

This program aims to assist the students to realize their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is groomed for research and development in the country. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected KVPY Fellows up to the pre Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.

The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Government has entrusted the overall responsibility for organizing and running the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and set up a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) for overseeing its implementation. A core committee looks after both the day-to-day and academic aspects of the KVPY Program.

MS Dhoni celebrates 37th birthday with Sakshi, Ziva, Kohli, Anushka

There was a big cause for celebration in the Indian team even though they lost the second T20 international against England in Cardiff on Friday as MS Dhoni turned 37.

Captain Cool, as he is still fondly called, celebrated his birthday with wife Sakshi, daughter Ziva and all the members of the Indian team in his hotel room after the game.

Dhoni cut a cake with his family present at his side while his teammates sang Happy Birthday. The celebrations were led by Captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma as the rest of the team members also joined in.

Hales, bowlers help England draw level

A disciplined performance from the England bowlers and an unbeaten half-century from Alex Hales helped the hosts beat India by five wickets in the second T20I at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Friday (July 6). Having kept India to 148 for 5, despite some late hitting by MS Dhoni, England batsmen struggled in the first half of their innings. But Hales's well-paced half-century and the middle order's improved performance against the spinners made all the difference, with their chief tormentor in the previous game - Kuldeep Yadav - bowling four wicket-less overs for 34 runs.
Brief scores: India 148/5 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 47, MS Dhoni 32*; Liam Plunkett 1-17) lost to England 149/5 in 19.4 overs (Alex Hales 58*, Jonny Bairstow 28; Umesh Yadav 2-36) by 5 wickets.
