Leopard at IIT Bombay

With several instances of animal spotting at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), it seems to have become a common occurrence at the Powai campus. Days after the video of a cow taking a stroll inside one of the institute's classrooms went viral, a video of a leopard roaming inside the campus has hit the social media.

Precaution:- Speaking on condition of anonymity, the institute spokesperson said, "Somebody has shot a video of the leopard but the location cannot be confirmed. It could be the campus. But spotting leopards inside the campus is a regular occurrence. We have informed the forest department about it. However, we issue general guidelines to students, staff and others on campus throughout the year to remain alert and take precautionary measures as and when required. They should go out at night only in groups."

Regular instances:-
According to students, spotting of leopards inside the campus was a usual scenario. One of them said, "Leopards are usually spotted near the hilly area. If the situation gets serious, the authorities issue a warning apart from their regular directives." Another student said, "Instances of animals entering classrooms and hostels increases during the rainy season as they drift into the campus in search of shade."

NTA to set up 3,000 practice centres for JEE and NEET

NEW DELHI:-Competitive tests such as JEE main,NEET-UG and UGC NET are set for a major overhaul from next year . The changes include having a unique set of questions for each candidate, with a software picking questions at random, and multiple dates for taking an exam .

The overhaul is being driven by the new NTA(National Testing Agency),which will conduct its first exam in December 2018- the University Grants Commisson's National Eligibility Test. The agency will annually test around 1.5 Crore candidtes.Read more

From there on, it was a struggle. MS Dhoni struggled, Hardik Pandya failed to get going as India crawled to a well below-par total.

Step 1: Registration

• You will receive a user id and password on your registered E-mail id and mobile number.
• Please make a note of the user id and password for future reference.

Step 2: Filling the Application Form

• Log in with your ‘User Id’ and ‘Password’.
• Enter details such as your personal details, academic details and exam centre preference.
• Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, Caste/Disability Certificate, etc.
• Click on ‘Preview’ to check all the information before submitting the application form.
• Now click on the ‘Submit’ tab.

Step 3: Fee Payment

• Re-login with your ‘User Id’ and ‘Password’.
• Select a payment mode viz. Credit Card/Debit Card/ Net Banking/ Challan.
• After paying the fees click on the ‘Submit’ tab.
• ‘Your Application is under Scrutiny’ message will be displayed on your form.

Step 4: Check Application Status

New NET, NEET, JEE (Mains) Schedule Out as National Testing Agency Takes Over; Students Free to Pick Dates

New Delhi: Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday announced that the newly constituted National Testing Agency (NTA) would start conducting NEET, JEE (Mains) and NET entrance exams, which are currently organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), from the upcoming academic session.

Addressing a press conference, Javadekar said the National Eligibility Test (NET) would be conducted in December, the JEE (Mains) would be conducted in January and April, and NEET would be held in February and May.

Students can appear for JEE and NEET twice a year and the best score will be considered for admission.

The JEE (Advanced) will continue to be conducted by the IITs.

The NTA would also conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT), Javadekar said.

The Union minister added that all these exams would be computer-based and that students can practice at home or at authorised computer centres free of cost. The details of such centres would be announced soon.

Javadekar said the syllabus, question format, language and fees won't change. Each exam will be conducted on four to five dates.

He assured that the format would be immune to cheating and leaks since it’s computer-based. Reminded that the Class 10 examinations, too, were computer-based but plagued by cheating scandals, Javadekar said the NTA module doesn’t allow screen-sharing.

He added, "The exams will be more secure and at par with international norms. There will be no issues of leakage and it would be more student friendly, open, scientific and a leak-proof system."

“These examinations will use highly secured IT software and encryption to ensure delivery of tests just in time. This will ensure no leakages and other malpractices,” a press release by the ministry said.

“NTA will establish a network of test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam. Schools/engineering colleges with computer centres would be identified and kept open on Saturday/Sunday starting from 3rd week of August. Any student can use the facility free of charge,” it added.

There was a big cause for celebration in the Indian team even though they lost the second T20 international against England in Cardiff on Friday as MS Dhoni turned 37.

Captain Cool, as he is still fondly called, celebrated his birthday with wife Sakshi, daughter Ziva and all the members of the Indian team in his hotel room after the game.

Dhoni cut a cake with his family present at his side while his teammates sang Happy Birthday. The celebrations were led by Captain Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma as the rest of the team members also joined in.

KL Rahul scored a scintillating 101 off 54 balls powering India to an 8-wicket win against England in the first T20I at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Scoring his second T20I hundred, Rahul whacked the English bowlers all over the park hitting 10 boundaries and 5 sixes. Chasing a target of 160 on a batting surface, India lost Shikhar Dhawan early. Rahul came in to bat at number three position and was middling the ball from the word go. Rahul clobbered all England bowlers to every corner of theground. Rohit Sharma (32 off 30 balls) provided brilliant support from the other end. No England bowler seemed troubling the batting duo. Adil Rashid was the most successful picking 1 wicket for 25 runs. Virat Kohli also became the fastest batsman to reach 2000 runs in T20I format in the match. At the end India achieved the target with 10 balls to spare.

National Testing Agency..

"An autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions."

It will begin by conducting exams managed by the CBSE.

The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the creation of a National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions.

Its creation will relieve the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) – which conducts exams like the National Eligibilty-cum-Entrance Test – and the All India Council for Technical Education of the burden of conducting entrance tests.

The Hindu had first reported on December 13, 2016, about the Centre's move to set up the NTA.

“The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the creation of a National Testing Agency (NTA) as a Society registered under the Indian Society Registration Act, 1860, and as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions,” said a press release.

The NTA will begin by conducting exams managed by the CBSE and gradually conduct other examinations too.

“The entrance examinations will be conducted in online mode at least twice a year, thereby giving adequate opportunity to candidates to bring out their best,” the release added. “In order to serve the requirements of the rural students, it would locate the centres at sub-district/district level and as far as possible would undertake hands-on training to the students.”

The NTA will be chaired by an eminent educationist appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. There will be a Board of Governors comprising members from user institutions.

The Centre will give an initial grant of ₹25-crore to the NTA to start its operations in the first year. Thereafter, it will be self-sustaining.

“Establishment of NTA will benefit about 40 lakh students appearing in various entrance examinations. It will... also bring in high reliability, standardized difficulty level for assessing the aptitude, intelligence and problem solving abilities of the students,” the release said.
